My personal and professional operating premise in life is: Do no harm but take no crap. Could I love it more that the Positive Impacts Awards judges agree that Practice, Practice contributes to a healthier, more compassionate world? No, I could not! Given the cruel insanity of our current administration, all of us need as many pointers and tips as we can get to protect our mental health and equilibrium.
Written with a light touch, Practice, Practice gives you a fly-on-the-wall experience of being in session with me and several long-term patients. I share what’s going through through my mind as I’m working, living my life, and saving the day (or trying to). The take-home: flawless performance is not required for a clinician to be genuinely helpful (or to be a decent person). We learn best through our mistakes, and therapists are no different. (Too bad, eh? Time to put that fantasy to rest.)
Practice, Practice launched March 2020 just as the pandemic shut-down happened. Alas, there were no launch parties, no book readings, no book signings. How nice is it to receive an award now, five years post-publication? Very nice! So affirming! The content hasn’t aged out. It’s evergreen. Timeless. Of course that makes sense. There is no expiry date on being the change you want to see in the world. Thank you, Positive Impact Book Awards.
